Drawing since age six, Katherine received her formal art training from The Art Center in LA, after which Walt Disney personally hired her for her first art job. In Canada, while working at 5 international advertising agencies, and completing may illustration assignments, she found her true joy in fine art painting. And the enjoyment is contagious.
The exhibit by Sylvia Adamcik is a study of the theoretical opposites that exist within all orders of life, with specific attention directed towards the binary system inherent within digital processes.

Leonardo Gallery: Anne Barkley, 'Melody 5', 12 x 12 inches, oil on canvas

Leonardo Gallery: Rita Vindedzis, 'Fallen Leaves', 12 x 12 inches, mixed media

Reception: Thursday June 4, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. (during and after the Art Walk)
Painters Anne Barkley and Rita Vindedzis interpret transformation and play with convention.
Anne Barkley's series experiments with standard art norms, representation and architecture with a new sense of freedom. Using oil, anticipating the vitality of viewer imagination, her paintings capture the complexity of natural abstract shapes and beautiful colours.
Rita Vindedzis’ newest work, a total departure from her known landscapes, incorporates collage elements such as hand made stamps and stencils, gel transfers and photo copies of her own digital photography. The pieces reflect her use of colour, shape and texture and showcase her freshly discovered eclectic vision.
Artists will be present for the Art Walk.

Background Overview
A highly informative monthly tour takes place in the Yorkville Art Gallery district, giving newcomers and regular attendees a focused overview of the Yorkville art scene. This informal, free tour begins by gathering at the Rotunda (lower level) in the Hazelton Lanes Mall, opposite Browns’ Shoe Store. The attendees split into two or three smaller groups which visit selected area galleries during the evening. Each small group is led by a tour guide who is familiar with art appreciation and the local art scene. Some of the galleries may have featured artists present for the tour. A wide range of Contemporary or Historical Canadian and International works of art are available for viewing. At the end of the evening attendees may join the group for coffee at a local area café. The Artsgroup hopes you will consider this event for your calendar.
