The Jayn Simpson & Tricia Cochran Collection
“Here comes the bride, all dressed in…” a beautiful Italian silk Victorian-style dress with sequin lace, custom-made to fit your style and shape exactly.
Pinch yourself, you’re not dreaming. The Jayn Simpson & Tricia Cochran Collection, located at 114 Avenue Road in Yorkville, can make all of your fashion dreams come true. The boutique creates custom couture, bridal, and eveningwear and takes the term ‘custom-made’ to a whole new level.
“We can make the dress or outfit of your wildest dreams,” says Jayn Simpson, owner of the boutique. “It’s 100 per cent guaranteed that whatever you’re looking for, we can do.” Simpson’s boutique works by appointment only, and usually takes three appointments to perfect the design. “It’s a lengthy process, but it makes for the dream dress,” Simpson says. “It’s just a very special experience, because we take so much time to get to know the person. There really is nothing comparable to what we do here.”
Born in Vancouver, Simpson grew up wearing clothes made for her by her mother. After moving to Ottawa at an early age, Simpson remembers creating her first collection at the age of 13 in her parents’ basement. In 1998, she moved back to Vancouver to attend the Blanche Macdonald Centre for Applied Design, where upon graduating she was awarded the prized Artistic Achievement Award for design and illustration of her graduating class. Simpson then moved back to Ottawa and launched her own line in 2002, which was immediately bought by the prestigious Justine’s on Sussex Drive. Simpson arrived in Toronto in February of 2005, and has since had two successful showings at L’Oreal Fashion Week and has settled into her new boutique. And she’s showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
“Right now I’m producing my spring/summer ’07 line, and I’ll be taking this line into the States,” she says, adding that she hopes to expand her line into Europe in the near future as well. In the meantime, Simpson is loving every minute of her newfound life and career. “I’m just completely obsessed and passionate about fashion,” she says. “It’s truly what I’m meant to do. I can’t imagine a minute not thinking about it or wanting to do it – it’s my whole life.”
